Penguin Design Awards

  • Penguin Design Awards 2011

This was my entry into the Penguin Design Award Competition.
I decided I wanted to make this cover look slightly sinister as Roald Dahl books always have a wonderfully dark edge to them, that kids love. I made the peach vibrant, to contrast with the gnarly old tree and also to convey that the peach is James' escape to a new life. I entwined the title in the tree roots to visually reference that until James finds the peach he is trapped in the clutches of his cruel aunts.
